Obituary: William Eldridge Wood
William Eldridge Wood of Wilmington, age 78, passed away peacefully Monday morning, February 20, 2012. Mr. Wood is a retired New Hanover Deputy Sheriff. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of the VFW Post 10.
He was the son of late Lillie Estelle Lanier Wood and Collie Gordon Wood. William was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Wood; two sisters, Annie Wells of Hampstead, NC, and Dorothy Mae Penny of Wilmington, NC.
He is survived by his companion Helen Thomas of the home; one son William Eldridge "Billy" Wood JR of Kenansville, NC; one daughter Tammy W. Rivenbark of Wilmington, NC; two sisters, Nora Estelle Winstead of Kenansville, NC, and Rosie Clemmons of Wilmington, NC; and two grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be conducted on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at 11am in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening February 22, 2012, from 6pm-8pm at Coble Ward-Smith Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC.
To know William was to Love him and he will be greatly missed.
