Obituary: Gloria Smith Millard

Mrs. Gloria Smith Millard passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2001, in New Hanover Regional medical center. Gloria was born October 12, 1935, in Fayetteville, NC, the daughter of the late Ralph Merlin and Delma Leatherwood Smith.


She is survived by her husband, Thomas Omega Millard; three children, Diana Millard (Doug Pollard), Thomas Omega Millard, Jr. (June), all of Wilmington, and Lee Smith Millard (Kathy) of South lake, Texas. She is survived by six wonderful grandchildren, Amy, Ashley and VJ Lindenschmidt, Lauren and Leslie Millard and Jamee Pollard; one brother, Ralph M. Smith II (Gayle) and their children, Heather and Ralph III.


Gloria was a wonderful wife and mother for forty-seven years. She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1954, where she was an inductee of the National Honor Society. She went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Masters Degree in Education.


She lovingly taught students in many elementary schools in New Hanover County and at Cape fear Academy in Wilmington. She was a member of Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church and recently became a member of North Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Gloria loved her church and our Lord Jesus Christ. She will be missed by all who knew her.


Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 800 Piner Road. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. There will be a private intombment for the family at Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.


Pallbeares will be Fitz Caudle, Carl Ellis, Haven Hodges, Tony Satterfield, Gerald stone and don Wilken.
