Obituary: SUE WALTON PHILIPS

Sue Walton Philips 82 of Winter Park, Florida passed away peacefully on August 29, 2018.

Sue was born in Burlington, North Carolina on March 11, 1936. Her early years were spent in Wilmington, North Carolina where she graduated from New Hanover high school in 1954 and attended University of North Carolina-Greensboro (Womans College).

Her Parents, Archie B. Walton and Thelma Ward Walton of Wilmington, North Carolina preceded Sue in death.

Sue was a very photogenic individual and caught the eye of Hugh MacRae Morton, a photographer and conservationist who featured her in many statewide magazines promoting events such as Grandfather Mountain and the North Carolina Azalea festival.

Her husbands work took her to Va. Beach, Virgina where she started her family and enjoyed some of the best years of her life. The family changed vocations and moved to Winter Park, Florida in 1978. She began a career with Florida Gas Transmission ( Enron Corp.) and retired in 2000. She and her husband were married for 60 years.

Sue is survived by husband C. Michael Philips, Winter Park, Fl., daughter, Kimberly Anne Burnett, Casselberry, Fl., son, Scott Walton Philips, Staunton, Virginia, grandson Reno Michael Burnett, Casselberry, Fl., sisters and husbands Jeanne and Leon Fox, Durham, North Carolina; Carolyn and Herb Darden, Va. Beach, Va.

Sue was appreciated by her family for her sense of style. She took pride in keeping her home attractive inside and out. She enjoyed the decor of her home and keeping the landscaping neat.

She will be remembered as a lovely,charming person with a flair for southern hospitality. The Family would like to thank the Hospice of the Comforter for their loving care and attention given to Sue.

No services will be held and interment will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
