Obituary: MRS. MARY FRANCES DAVIS WORRELL


Mrs. Mary Frances "Fran" Davis Worrell of 14801 Collegiate Drive, Wilmington, N.C., died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in The Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.

She was born May 13, 1936, in Wilmington, NC, the daughter of Elizabeth Seiter Davis of Wilmington and the late James Harriss Davis.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Jimmie Worrell. In her youth, Mrs. Worrell reigned as the 1953 NC Azalea Festival Teenage Princess. She was very active with the New Hanover Senior Center. She was a member of the Senior Center "High Steppers," who represented New Hanover County in 1997, winning the gold medal in the NC Silver Arts Competition in Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Worrell was a charter member of the Harmony Belles Choral Group, and a very active member of Thalian Hall Volunteer Corps.

Surviving are her husband, Florenz "Flo" Worrell of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Laurie W. Link and husband Edwin Link of Wilmington; two granddaughters, Katy and Mary Link; one brother, James Davis Jr. of Wilmington; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Kelly, of Wilmington.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in Oleander Memorial Gardens by Rev. Steve Hein. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
