Obituary: Ken Hansley

Kenneth Hansley of Hampstead, NC, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He is survived by Betty, his wife of 52 years; sons, Wayne and Bill; and their wives, Kathy and Susie; and grandchildren, Jordan and Bonnie. He is also survived by his sister, Billie Lancaster of Tabor City, SC; niece, Jeannie Johnson of Kure Beach, NC; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Ken was born in Wilmington, on August 13, 1935. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1954, attended Wilmington College, and graduated in Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1965.

He retired from DuPont in Kinston, completing a 30-year career. Ken was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed working with stained glass and wood. In recent years Ken received his contractor's license and oversaw the design and construction of their home, The Clamshell, on the Intracoastal Waterway in Hampstead.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank-you to Jo Ann and David Turner, Ken's sister-in-law and brother-in-law, who provided generous support and assistance during Ken's illness.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 18, at 1 pm and services at 2 pm at Andrews Mortuary, 17th St. and Market St, Wilmington, with burial immediately following at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The service will be conducted by Dr. Ray Frazier. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 401 Harrison Oaks Blvd, Suite 200, Cary, NC 27513.
