Obituary: JERE LEONARD DANFORD
Jere Leonard Danford, age 64, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center due to complications from cancer.
Jere was born February 10, 1936 in New Hanover County, the son of Ruby Leonard Danford and the late John William Danford.
He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District after 37 years of service.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Carol Sharpe Danford of the home, two sons, Jere Michael Danford and wife Suzanne Gibson Danford of St Joseph, MI, and Gregory P. Danford of Raleigh; one sister, Kathy Danford Edgerton of Wilmington, two grandchildren, Kendall and Kayla Danford. He is also survived by his Granddog Jordan.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2000 at Oleander Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gordon Wright officiating.
In lieu of visits to the home, the family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday evening September 21, 2000 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel. The family requests that any memorials be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center at 725-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington, N.C. 28401.
