Obituary: Jean Wells Jacobs
Jean “Tookie” Wells Jacobs, 78, of Wilmington passed away on December 20, 2014 at home.
She was born on February 11, 1936 in Wilmington, NC to the late, Stacy Allen Wells and Virginia Waters Wells.
Jean is survived by her three children, Cindy Tholen, Ira M. Jacobs, III and Gregory K. Jacobs; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson; a brother, Stacy A. Wells; a niece, nephews and several cousins.
Jean graduated from UNCW where she received her Bachelor’s and Master's Degrees in Education, was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and a volunteer for the Seaman’s Center. She retired from New Hanover County School Systems. After retirement she taught remedial reading in the Pender County School System. Jean implemented the first Christian Based Cancer Support System in Wilmington at Winter Park Baptist Church where she was a member. She was active in the community and her church, always helping others in need and loving it.
A visitation will be held from 9am-10am Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Winter Park Baptist Church with funeral services starting at 10am. Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and the staff at All Care Home Care.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Winter Park Baptist Church Benevolent Fund or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
