Obituary: JAMES CONSTANTINE PAPPAS

James Constantine Pappas, D.D.S. of 200 Donington Drive, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002.

He was born in Athens, Greece, on Feb. 3, 1936, and was a son of the late Rev. Constantine Pappasand Evangelia Pappas. After graduating from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, N.C., in 1954, he attended the University of North Carolina and West Virginia University, where he received his B.S. in 1958 and D.D.S. in 1962. He practiced dentistry in Northern Virginia, where he lived with his first wife, Anna Dukas Pappas, and five daughters. His wife, Anna, passed away in May 1986, and he remarried four years later in 1990 to Maria Zaharis and moved to Greenville in 1997.

He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and of the American Hellenic Progressive Association and the American Dental Association.

He is survived by his widow, Maria Bakos Pappas of the home; daughters, Lia Loizou and her husband, Dean, of Springfield, Va., Tina Spanos and her husband, Harry, of Falls Church, Va., Kathy Allem and her husband, John, of Fairfax, Va., Connie Pappas of New York, N.Y., Joni McGuinness and husband, Dave, of Cabin John, Md.; stepdaughters, Noula Kokenes and her husband, Constantine, of Atlanta, Ga., Connie Reeves and her husband, Tommy, of Bluffton; brothers, Dr. Paul Pappas of Charleston, W.Va., and Dr. Chris Pappas of McLean, Va.; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 15 DeCamp St., Greenville, SC 29601.

Visitation was held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, with a Trisagion following.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, Falls Church, Va. - Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
