Obituary: Ivey Howard Stampley

 

WILMINGTON -- Ivey Howard Stampley, 75, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, December 22, 2010. He was born in Raleigh, NC, on July 6, 1935, the son of the late Ola Estelle Strong Stampley and Ivey Howard Stampley.

Mr. Stampley was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he had served as Elder and as Clerk of the Session. He was a graduate of New Hanover High School and the Cincinnati College of Embalming, Cincinnati, Ohio class of 1955. Mr. Stampley was a retired Funeral Director/Counselor and Embalmer, retiring in 2005 due to failing health.

He began his funeral service career in 1953 as a young high school student, with Ward Funeral Home as an apprentice, then Coble Funeral Service, and later Ward-Smith Funeral Home. Finally to have life come full circle, he was an associate of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service for the past twenty-two years. "Many thanks to all who helped to guide me through the years."

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Clementina (Tina) Wine Stampley; son Ivey Howard Stampley III and wife Brenda of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Susan Stampley Grant of Wilmington, Norma Estelle Stampley of Charlotte, NC, and Joanne Stampley Brinkley, and husband Brian of Wilmington, NC; a very special granddaughter, Grayson Ivey Brinkley; one sister, Wilma Stampley Piner of Greenville, NC; 6 grandsons and 8 great-grandchildren; 3 nephews; 5 nieces; 3 great nephews; and 4 great nieces, including a special namesake, Ivy Caroline Bowers.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Kotz and his staff, Dr. Robert Cortina, and Dr. Charles Almond for their care and compassion, along with the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.

The family will receive friends 7:00 PM-9:00 PM, Monday, December 27, 2010, at Coble Ward-Smith Oleander Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
