Obituary: Catherine Herring Warwick
Catherine Herring Warwick passed into her eternal home with her Lord Jesus on April 3, 2013, after a four year courageous battle with cancer. Catherine was born March 12, 1936, the daughter of Glen A. and Connell S. Herring, and grew up on Masonboro Sound. Her parents and brother Glen Herring, Jr. predeceased her. Catherine graduated from New Hanover High School in 1954, and attended nursing school for 1 year in Raleigh. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob Warwick and they had a wonderful 57 years of marriage.
Catherine is survived by her husband, daughter Carol W. Stertzer (Brian) of Hilton Head, SC; her son, Steven J. Warwick (Susan) of Wilmington; her five grandchildren, Julie McKiddie (Eric) of Chapel Hill, NC, Lisa Wilkinson (David), Caleb Stertzer (Rachel) of Columbus, OH, Rob Warwick and Laura Tippett (Luke) of Wilmington. She has 4 great-grandchildren, Kate, Calvin and Clara McKiddie and Ella Grace Wilkinson. Catherine loved her role as a wife, mother and grandmother.
Catherine was a prolific reader having read an estimated 10,000 books in her lifetime. She was a partner in Logos bookstore for 10 years. She was an advisor on books for The Salt Shaker Book Store.
Catherine loved teaching the Bible and was a Bible Study Fellowship teacher for 15 years and Sunday School teacher for many years. She loved her Bible Study Fellowship leaders and friends. Catherine was a member of the Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held April 7, 2013, Sunday at 3pm at Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd. There will be a reception following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to the Catherine Warwick Scholarship Fund at UNC-W, 601 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, PO Box 86, Wilmington, NC 28402, or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401. The family will have a private burial service.
