Obituary: Betty Ann Bordeaux

DR. ELIZABETH ANN "BETTY" BORDEAUX

Ms. Bordeaux passed away on August 26, 2010. Born on March 30, 1937, she was the only child of the late William Porter Bordeaux and Elizabeth Dock Bordeaux of Wilmington.

Elizabeth, best known as Betty, was an alumnus of Duke University where she earned an undergraduate degree, Harvard University where she earned a Masters Degree and UNC Chapel Hill where she earned a PhD. With degrees in Early Childhood Development and Psychology she chose a career in counseling, testing and guidance for exceptional children in Wayne County and Goldsboro Schools.

Having worked full-time during her college years, her career, and being the primary care giver of her grandmother, father and mother she led a full life until she retired to her historic Wrightsville Beach bungalow. She enjoyed the years of retirement watching sunrises, sunsets, moonlit nights, the daily parade of local ducks, "her" nesting doves and chatting with passersby from her porch overlooking Wrightsville Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. She also traveled the world extensively during this time - most notably with Frances Parnell Tours and her traveling friends.

Betty is survived by Bejou, her dog, and local cousins, Walter "Buddy" Love and Michael Adams. Also, surviving cousins are Helen Harper Rambo and Patty Chubbs of Pensacola, FL and Jack Horner of Greensboro, NC.

A graveside memorial Service is planned at the Bordeaux family plot in Oakdale Cemetery on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 3:30pm.

In tribute to her dedication to children, memorials may be sent to Boys and Girls Homes of NC, PO Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.

Betty's caregivers and a steady flow of friends made her final weeks "special" to all. Her family and other caregivers are deeply grateful to those who offered love and commitment during what could have been her darkest and most lonely hours.
