Obituary: ALVA HILL WARD


Alva Hill Ward III, of 2622 S. Shore Dr., Surf City, N.C., died Saturday, September 13, 1997, at his residence.

He was born in Lumberton, N.C., on June 21, 1936. Al was a member of St. James Church and was a partner in the Architect firm of Ward Associates. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of architecture Degree and was Past President of Wilmington Section N.C. Chapter American Institute of Architects.

Surviving are his wife, Gwendolyn Whithurst Ward of the home; his father and mother, Alva Hill Ward and Merle Floyd Ward of Wilmington, N.C.; brother, David F. Ward and wife, Robin L. Ward of Wilmington; niece, Allison E. Ward; and nephew, Brandon T. Ward.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. James Church by the Rev. Charles G. VonRosenberg. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
